The Laboratory Supervisor provides administrative and technical support within the laboratory.

The Supervisor performs testing procedures and provides clinical result interpretation, ensuring quality assurance standards are met. The Supervisor maintains operational continuity and monitors laboratory activities to meet clinical and productivity standards. The Supervisor schedules, assesses and trains laboratory staff and assists with administrative duties as required.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation.


EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemical, physical or biological sciences required. Business or finance courses beneficial.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Medical Technologist/Histotechnoloigst/Cytotechnologist certification (ASCP) or registry eligible.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 1 year technical experience preferably within a supervisory capacity.

Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire. This position requires 24 hours continued education yearly.


Demonstrates the technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Strict compliance with laboratory Fraud and Abuse policies and requirements in an employment condition.


Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury.

This position may involve increased amounts of standing, bending, and manual manipulation, as well as some light lifting. Must have the ability to distinguish colors.

Core competencies will be assessed primarily to the following patient population(s) served (with the exception of newborns): All diagnoses/conditions of patients admitted to the hospital.


This position reports to Department Leadership and supervises the Senior Laboratory Technologist, Senior Laboratory Technologist Anatomic Pathology, Laboratory Technical Consultant I and II, Lab Cytotechnologist, Sr. Lab Cytotechnologist, Laboratory Testing Personnel and the Laboratory Assistant I& II,
