Fermilab's PIP-II Division is seeking a Deputy Project Systems Manager (Electrical Engineer or Engineering Physicist). Under the general direction of the manager for PIP-II High Power RF (HPRF) systems, the selected candidate will utilize a fundamental knowledge of physics and an understanding of radiofrequency engineering together with problem-solving skills to specify, design, test, and commission high power RF systems and components for the PIP-II accelerator. The PIP-II Division acts as the central management of a large scale, international collaboration that is designing and constructing a leading-edge, superconducting linear accelerator. The successful applicant will work closely with other PIP-II Division members, Accelerator Division RF Department staff, and related groups working on PIP-II to coordinate the design and construction of the high power RF systems.

You Will
  • Work closely with colleagues and collaborators to contribute to the construction and commissioning of the PIP-II high power RF system.
  • Be prepared to assume the role of system manager in the primary manager's absence.
  • Be responsible for managing the evolution of complete sub-systems of HPRF, from specification to engineering design, development, prototyping, procurement, testing, and commissioning.
  • Test, debug, document, and maintain high power RF systems used for both testing components of and operating the PIP-II accelerator complex.
  • Plan and communicate technical activities required to test, install, and commission high power RF components.
  • Provide technical direction to draftspersons, designers, engineering associates, and technicians as assigned, and interact with PIP-II Managers of interfacing systems.
  • Coordinate technical reviews and informational meetings with international collaborators.
  • Travel to participate in testing and commissioning of RF components in collaborator institutions as necessary. Some international travel is assumed.
  • Participate and assist with schedule and budget tasks for HPRF as the Control Account Manager (CAM).
  • Assist with related RF systems, including LLRF and coupler development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the system manager.
  • Abide by and be responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

We Are Looking For
  • Bachelor of Science degree and 5+ years of related engineering or physics experience; Master of Science in related discipline is desired.
  • Experience with operating RF amplifiers and design and maintenance of RF distribution systems.
  • Professional knowledge of basic theories, concepts, principles, and methodology for practicing in the engineering or applied physics discipline.
  • Possession of basic project planning skills in developing specifications and documents for integrating sub-systems into a larger project.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of standard engineering techniques.
  • Proven ability to effectively troubleshoot technical systems.
  • Ability to work effectively under the constraints of tight schedules and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively with other individuals and within multiple groups.
  • Strong verbal communication skills
